Lesson Plan: Exploring Soil Textures and Characteristics for 3rd-5th Grade      Objective:  By the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify and describe the textures and characteristics of different types of soil and use that knowledge to choose the best soil for plant growth. They will also create and decorate clay pots to plant bird seeds to grow if they want to. **Materials Needed:** - Assorted soil samples (sandy, loamy, clayey) - Magnifying glasses - Small 2-inch clay pots (1 per student) - Birdseed (1 small bag per student) - Soil of the student's choice - Paints, brushes, markers, and other decorating materials - Watering cans or spray bottles - Plastic bags for students to take their pots home - Art supplies (for decorating pots) **TEKS and Standards:** - **Tech Apps TEKS:**   - 3-5.1.A: Create original products using a variety of resources. - **Gardening Topic:**   - Exploring texture in the gardens (properties of soil and the ability ...

Star Hero Activity idea

Image
ðŸ’¬On this day, my partner and I brainstormed ideas for what activities the students would be doing for the Star Hero Journey event at Metro. After being stumped for a long time, we decided to use chatGPT to help us brainstorm and activity. After Introducing the standards and Ideas to the AI. The AI-generated a very thorough activity plan. As an IDET student, and with AI being a popular phenomenon, I would like to make a section of the activity that utilizes AI. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Summary of Activity  Students will learn about different soil textures and their characteristics that may or may not help plants grow. Students will explore different types of soil texture, including different types of loam with varying percentages of sand, clay, and silt. Students will explore soil textures and then create an art piece using the soil texture of their choice. Students will use Text-to-image AI to help with the brainstorming process. Studen...

I-Create Lab

Image
For today's class, we got to tour the I-create lab at TAMUCC. This lab is not only for college students, but it's also available to the public. This Lab has many design tools that allow you to create using various tools. I have taken photos of some of the tools available to me here at the lab. The two resources I'm most interested in are Poster Maker and Cricut. Core Standard 3.9(A)  Observe and describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities within an ecosystem. ( Garden TEKS )  Exploring texture in the garden(properties of soils &  abilities to support plant  growth)  I hope to use these tools to incorporate examples of soil and its physical characteristics and how it relates to plant growth. Students can explore soil texture and decide which texture is preferable to have efficient plant growth. Students will be able to create their own planter box digitally using Canva and paste a picture of the...

💭 Art TEK 3b.2(c)  Produce drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures, including modeled forms and other art forms such as ceramics, fiber art, constructions, mixed media, installation art, digital art and media, and photographic imagery using a variety of materials. Core Standard 3.9(A) Observe and describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities within an ecosystem. ( Garden TEKS )  Exploring texture in the garden(properties of soils & abilities to support plant growth)  I would like to integrate science and fine arts! Students will learn about soil conditions and how they help plants grow. I would also like for students to have opportunities to work on CS and CT skills by  having them work with text-to-image AI and find images concerning the makeup or structure of the soil. Students can also use AI to make  visual representations of how soil can affect plant life.   I  am interested in u...
